What do I do if my dog has fleas?
Get a treatment from your vet and also worm your animal for tapeworm, as the flea is the intermediate host for this parasite. Also get a household spray for fleas from your vet to use in all areas your dog is going into, e.g., sofas, carpets, skirtings, as these are where the flea breeds. They only go onto the dog to feed. So, for every flea you find on your dog there are many more in its surroundings.
How do I keep my dog's coat from matting?
Choosing the right breed of dog for your lifestyle is very important as, if you chose a coated breed e.g., a Cocker Spaniel, Bichon Frisé or poodle, you will have to spend a certain amount of time each day brushing and combing the coat. If it gets wet it must be thoroughly dried and combed, as it will felt if left. A short lesson from your groomer is always an advantage. Call our doggy parlour to make a booking.
How long does it take to groom a dog?
At Purrfect paws Doggy parlour in Pretoria-east, we allow approximately one hour per dog, so that the dog is not rushed or the groom compromised by lack of time. It takes longer than owners think to bath and dry a dog properly, attend to its ears, nails and styling. Please remember that animals are not always on their best behaviour, so grooming times may vary.
How do I book my dog or cats appointment at your doggy parlour?

Do I need to do anything before my appointment?
Please make sure your dog has been for a walk before their appointment and been able relieve themselves. I do provide toilet breaks if we feel like it is needed in the safe environment of our doggy parlour facility.
Do you offer grooming of animals other than dogs?
Yes, we do cats.
When should I start having my dog groomed?
Puppies can have their first groom at around 20 weeks old. (Make sure your puppy is up to date with its vaccinations). We offer puppies their first groom at a reduced rate to get your puppy used to the grooming routine and to build their confidence.
Will my dog be safe?
Yes, all our staff are well trained and your dog is supervised at all times! We work in a secure room and have first aid equipment on site and have local vets next door in case of emergency. Any medical conditions should be made known to me prior to your dogs visit to our doggy parlour.
How do you cope with big or heavy dogs?
We groom large or giant breeds. All our groomers are specialized in larger dog breeds..
Can you deal with aggressive or difficult dogs?
Sometimes a dog will dislike excessive handling and become anxious or aggressive. Sometimes we have to use a muzzle to protect the dog from causing damage to himself and the groomer. Only one dog at one time is groomed thereby reducing the risk of conflict with other dogs and to maintain a calm atmosphere. If a dog is too aggressive or simply very unhappy being groomed, we will not pursue it and will return to the owner at no charge.
How can I keep my dog looking good between grooming appointments?
Regular brushing with the correct brush is essential to maintain a healthy coat and healthy dog! We offer individual grooming plans to assist owners with how to brush correctly without causing any unnecessary pain to their dog and what tools they require.
